Cute yes but it's far too young to be away from it's mother. It can't be more than 4 or 5 weeks old. They shouldn't really leave their mothers until they're at least 7 or 8 weeks old. I really hope that it's mother was in the other room or just out of sight. Poor thing.
It reminded me of my rabbit's babies. They were just like that but not quite so skitish. They'd gotten used to us looking in the hutch and petting them. Tosca, the mother, didn't mind at all. In fact she quite liked it. If we were occupying the wee ones in the hutch she could get a few minutes to herself to eat, drink and clean herself in peace!
