HOLY SHIT I HAVE A DIAGNOSIS!!!!!!!!!

I'll attempt to keep this short. I have an ulcer in the cartilage on the front of the femur underneath the knee-cap, probably because when I was squatting down the knee-cap nicked a chunk out, so now every time I bend my knee it irritates the ulcer and causes pain (much like a mouth ulcer). So now I am being referred to have a camera shoved in my knee to see what needs done and possibly perform keyhole surgery then and there to repair the cartilage. The end is in sight.

That's fantastic!

I'm glad you got a diagnosis at last. I just hope they can sort something out.

Oooh, grim! But diagnosis at last is great :)

[identity profile] likeneontubing.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
aww I'm really happy that they got a diagnosis sorted out! Well done for persevering with all the shit they've thrown at you - am hoping the camera referral will be quick!

what does this mean for your exercise plans and so on?

[identity profile] diotina.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa, I am so glad we finally know what it is! Here's for rapid recovery progress for the Hanjaknee!

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yes, hopefully it will be simple and I will be working again within a couple of months. :D

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you :D I'm not sure what it means for exercises yet - I'm going to call my physio when she's in on Monday and see what she says. But it seems like just doing the quad strengthening exercises at home would be best, and giving the gym stuff and anything that involves lots of bending a break.

[identity profile] undeadbydawn.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
pretty much: no exercise. Everything we've been doing has aggravated the injury. Pesky misdiagnosis....

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ja! I've been doing google image search for cartilage problems and they all look mingin'. Apparently they'll put me to sleep while they do the surgery, which I'm a bit nervous about.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hear hear! Time for celebratory cake. :)

[identity profile] kynon.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Unlike a mouth ulcer, they can't just rub a bit of Bonjela on it! :P

Sounds like progress - hope it works out!

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, that would be brilliant. Squeezy cheese and a syringe, solved!

Thank you. :)

[identity profile] likeneontubing.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeez louise. At least you know now i suppose!

[identity profile] headinclouds.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you've finally got a diagnosis, shame it took so bleeding long though. Hopefully now they can do something about it, and you can get on with recovering properly. Hurrah for progress! :)

[identity profile] kangaroo.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems a bit odd to say Hooray you have an ulcer! but, er, hooray! They can fix you now!

[identity profile] spacelem.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! Shame it took so long.

[identity profile] celiaka.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck no, but also fuck yes!

Would you like to commiserate/celebrate this evening?

[identity profile] cybik.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry about general anaesthetic. It's nowhere near as scary as you think it is. ;)

SO glad you know what the problem is and can get it fixed finally!

good news that you finally have a diagnosis & hopefully an end!

wonder if you can throw a shitstorm at the misdiagnosises, if they were doing more damage?

[identity profile] neferet.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
About time they got something right :) I'm glad you don't have tooooo much longer before you can start getting about properly again!

[identity profile] seren.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch! I'm glad they've worked out what it is, though.

Hurrah! (sort-of)

Good luck with getting repaired :)

hurrah for diagnosis! I am back in the burgh now (I only _just_ got back) if you require hurrahs in the flesh

Don't worry about the being put under bit, it's a very weird experience but totally awesome at the same timie.

[identity profile] 0olong.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, ow! Wow though, so glad you finally know what's going on in there. :)

[identity profile] typical.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh gosh, it's terrible that you had to go to the lengths you did to get the diagnosis, but I'm really glad to hear now things are fixable!

[identity profile] tardigrada.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
Scary how incompetent professionals can be - well done for keeping your sanity and I hope you recover rapidly know you know what the score is.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ja, thank you! One way or another it will be fixed. :)

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe. :) Yeah, I'm just happy that they know what's wrong and what to do about it. I was so worried they were going to say "Nah, nothing wrong, get back on your feet".

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Too right. Not helped by seeing an incompetent orthopaedist in the first place, there was no need for it to take this long.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
:D And lo multiple celebrations shall occur. Are you coming for dinner tonight? Any particular hankerings?

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it has been suggested that if I'd been properly diagnosed I would most likely be in a job some two months ago, so a shitstorm may indeed by imminent.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yeah, it sounds like it shouldn't be more than a couple of months wheeee. :)

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ta. Yeah, I've been looking at pictures of other mashed up cartilage and it's not terribly pretty .. Fixed soon.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :) Shouldn't be too long now, so I am very happy.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
WARWARWARWARWARWARWARWAR.

It is good to be the king.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ja! Also, I have fiiiiinally finished Nurk. It's brilliant! It's so great I want to read it to everyone. In fact, I was wondering if the Forest would be up for some sort of bedtime stories event where someone just reads a chapter every night of some great kids' story and we all drink cocoa and chamomile tea. I would love that. :)

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :) It is pretty shameful that in the end I had to seek private diagnosis to figure out what was wrong. It really could have been avoided if the original othopaedic assessor was at all competent.

[identity profile] andabusers.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. ;) I'm not sure how well I have kept my sanity, but at least now I know it will be over soon.

[identity profile] 0olong.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Isn't it? :) I had the same impulse - I actually made a recording of the first chapter, but my microphone and software were rubbish so it's not really worth listening to. But I have better equipment now!

I love the idea of bedtime stories at the forest. The only trouble would be that we couldn't really actually sleep there...

Here is another Ursula V story that I love, by the way.

I'm glad you've finally gotten a proper diagnosis.
