Feb. 19th, 2009 09:24 amOh sweet sweet lord I have finally had a helpful email.
It is from the director of customer services at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, and he has told me that yes they definitely do let someone on ESA bring a helper in for free, but they aren't allowed to go in the pool or use the gym equipment, which makes perfect sense. This doesn't really apply to me anymore because my knee hasn't given out in quite some time so I'm confident enough to go to the pool on my own. But you're damn right it should be policy, so I am pleased.
He also helpfully outlined all the discounts available to me, which includes Pathways to Work paying for gym membership and a personal trainer. This is HILARIOUS because in that letter from the shit of a disability minister Jonathan Shaw he told my constituency MP that I was LYING about the Pathways to Work brochure offering free gym /pt services. I've just unearthed the brochure too and will send a picture of it in my response, with the phrase "free access to a local gym and personal trainer" highlighted. He actually bullshitted in a few other places, which require correcting, including that someone from the jobcentre called me up and helpfully gave me advice on buses as I'd never been there before, when in fact someone at the jobcentre called me up and told me to find out about buses my-fucking-self and no you can't get taxis reimbursed we will make you WALK you crippled SCUM! What a fucking cockrag. At least my MP is quite receptive.
There is now a complication of course that I have already signed up for the gym, mostly because it didn't seem like I'd be getting any bloody help out of anyone at the jobcentre. But now I know that's something they definitely do offer? You're too right I'm going to make them pay for it, even if it means temporarily freezing my current membership. And they're going to pay for my taxis to and from the Pathways to Work interview too, because they fucking SHOULD. I've had enough shit from them, I'm not taking any more.
Today I need to call the orthopaedic clinic and find out if my arthroscopy referral has been lost in the mists of time, because I haven't heard anything.
